Durham County Council

Durham County Council is a new unitary authority thats brings together the authorities of:

  • Chester-Le-Street District Council
  • Derwentside District Council
  • Durham City Council
  • Easington District Council
  • Sedgefield Borough Council
  • Teesdale District Council
  • Wear Valley District Council

“The decision to move to SNAP! was clear as it will enable our multiple area offices within the new unitary to unite by providing a solid foundation for processing electronic Building Control applications. This approach fits squarely with the services commitment to delivering exemplary standards of customer care and making the best use of resources to deliver cost effective services to customers.

The fact that SNAP! is externally web hosted means that we have a completely flexible solution that is not dependent on internal IT resources or tied to a specific office.”

Steve Reed, Area Manager, Durham County Council

Devon Building Control Partnership

The Devon Building Control Partnership is a local authority partnership which brings together the building control services of three Local Authorities to into one unified partnership to serve the communities of south and west Devon. The Devon Building Control Partnership was formed on 1 st April 2004 by sharing the resources of:

  • South Hams District Council
  • Teignbridge District Council
  • West Devon Borough Council

The partnership was keen to streamline the online application process for applicant s by providing a single point for electronic submissions under the partnership name on LABC Submit-a-Plan portal. Devon Building Control partnership was also keen on streamlining the processing and online consultation of their applications so that there were delivered to a single location. The solution was simple which was to migrate the installed DataSpace systems to a SNAP! online account.

“The decision to move to SNAP! was an easy one. Two out of the three authorities in the partnership are already using installed DataSpace systems for receiving and processing electronic applications from the Submit-a-Plan portal. We have already embraced electronic consultation using DataSpace Consult On-line, however this was only configured for one of the authorities, a service we wanted to use across the partnership.

The move to SNAP! will not only provide our customers with a single point for making applications, but will also streamline all our offices by enabling to run on the same solution for receiving, processing and consulting electronically on applications. I would recommend SNAP! with DataSpace Consult On-line to all Building Control Partnerships”.

Roger Collins, Head of Partnership, Devon Building Control Partnership

London Borough of Wandsworth

The decision was made to move to SNAP! Building Control as it provided full membership of the LABC Submit-a-Plan National Portal for online submissions and a simple web interface for the processing the applications. Before choosing SNAP! Wandsworth had developed their own online application forms for electronic submissions as part of PARSOL developments.

"We are moving from our own online forms to using SNAP! Building Control as it provides us will full LABC Submit-a-Plan membership for electronic applications. It is an ideal and cost effective solution that meets all our needs.”

"Our customers will benefit as the Submit-a-Plan Portal not only enables online applications but provides them with application updates and the ability to add revised documents."

Thiru Moolan, Head of Building Control, London Borough of Wandsworth

Northumberland Council Unitary

The newly formed Northumberland Council Unitary, which which covers an area of 502,644ha, chose SNAP! for receiving and processing electronic Building Control applications made on the LABC Submit-a-Plan Portal. The new council brings together six existing authorities into a single unitary authority.

The SNAP! Unitary solution enables online applications to be submitted to the unitary under the single Northumberland Council name. Applications received are then simple allocated to a specific region for online processing and consultation.

“SNAP! was chosen as it was the only solution on the market that fulfilled all our requirements for one point electronic submissions. SNAP! is a very cost effective system which provides instant cohesion between our multiple offices. As SNAP! is externally web hosted it offers us the flexibility we need as our applications can be accessed at any time and location and no internal IT resources are required.”

“If anybody is going through the LGR (Local Government Reform) process I would strongly urge any authority to take up SNAP! as you will have the perfect system for bringing multiple authorities and offices together as one. SNAP! also provides the unitary with the ability for team members to work remotely and from home, enabling flexible working.”

Steve Ridpath, Alnwick District Council’s Principal Building Control Officer

East & South Cheshire Building Control

"The move to SNAP! gives the Partnership the flexibility it needs. As SNAP! is web hosted it has created a robust submissions tool for online applications that can be relied upon as a contingency against any local ICT service failing and bridged the gap between the member authorities.

The inclusion of SNAP! has provided confidence to encourage our customers to submit electronically rather than the traditional paper method.

Numbers of online applications have increased recently and we expect them to continue to rise. With SNAP! we are positioned to embrace online applications and provide our customers with an online service.”

Ian Bunn, Head of Building Control, East & South Cheshire Building Control

“SNAP! was chosen because it provides a simple web based solution that enables us to offer a modern electronic application service to our customers through the LABC Submit-a-Plan Portal. We liked the fact that there is no software to install and that applications can be viewed and measured online and then downloaded.

We currently use Resolution’s ‘My Virtual Mail Room’ daily scanning service for paper applications and have been delighted with the service. We will shortly be having all our scanned and electronic application delivered to Coventry through Submit-a-Plan.”

Steve Davies, Building Control Manager, Coventry City Council
